Taylor Swift has returned to the top of the Billboard 200 with The Life of a Showgirl, achieving the album’s 13th nonconsecutive week at No. 1. This return follows the launch of an expanded version, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, which features four previously unreleased songs and led to a significant increase in streaming numbers.
His new album also skyrocketed from No. 21 to the top of the Billboard 200 charts on October 10, 2026. As reported by Billboard and Luminate, the album racked up 173,000 equivalent album units in the US in the tracking week ending October 1, a 619% jump from the week prior.
Released on September 25, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore added four new songs to the original album: “Patient Zero, ” “Cleveland! ” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.” The expanded release gave fans fresh material while bringing renewed attention to the original collection.
“Patient Zero” was the flagship track, with its music video premiering at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 27. The reveal was a prime example of how releasing extra tracks and visual content can make an existing album a big streaming hit again.
All editions of The Life of a Showgirl are included in the chart’s calculation of its performance on the Billboard 200. The chart position is based on the project’s consumption across all eligible editions, not solely the deluxe version of the set.
Streaming comprised the biggest chunk of the total 173,000 units earned by the album. Streaming-electronic albums totaled 136,000 units, which translates to around 138.79 million on-demand official audio and video streams of all the album’s songs.
Nearly 21,000 came from traditional album sales, and 16,000 from track-equivalent albums. These numbers illustrate the extent to which the release still relied on the public rediscovering the music through streaming, plus the rebuying that occurred after the wider release.
This also highlights the commercial importance of maintaining a presence on album well beyond the initial release. The addition of new tracks can both draw fans in, present the album to new audiences and incentivize audiences to return to old tracks.
The 13th week at No. 1 further extends Swift’s notable Billboard record. Her previous studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, held the top spot for 17 weeks, and The Life of a Showgirl has now become one of her most successful chart performers.
When compiled, Swift’s catalogue has shown time and again that it is capable of being resuscitated by a new record or something surrounding a record, like a special edition or a new audience. She nurtures the catalogue with releases, music videos and continued access to the music.
This newest milestone also highlights the importance of the continued expansion of online listening for the overall role of fans in today’s music industry. Streaming allows fans to relive albums in full, as social media and awards shows can rapidly boost a song.
