Types of Experimental Studies Performed in Cancer Research

Doctors and scientists partake in cancer research studies in an attempt to find better ways to prevent and treat cancer. This is definitely something worth looking into since the main aim of studying cancer is to develop safe and effective methods to help prevent, detect, diagnose, treat a and cure it. After all, it happens to be one of the most dreaded health conditions as it has the potential of turning your life into a living nightmare.

One notable type of research study done through cancer research is experimental studies. This type of study entails observing groups of people in a natural setting and looking at a specific result. The main intention of experimental studies is to determine how different risks cause or spread in a community. Here are the different types of experimental studies you ought to know about.

    Double-Blind Randomized Trial

Most scientists and researchers believe this type of clinical trial has the potential of producing the best evidence in a study. After all, neither the volunteers nor the researchers have an idea of who belongs to a treatment until the study ends. Things are not any different with the control group taking part in the studies.

    Single-Blind Randomized Trial

In this type of clinical trial, the volunteers do not know whether they belong to a treatment or control group. However, the researchers know about everyone taking part in the cancer research study.

    Open/Unblinded Trial

With this type of study, both the volunteers and researchers already know who belongs to each test group. This mostly takes place when it is no longer possible to use binding. For instance, you can count on the unblended trial when the study aims to compare a surgical treatment to a drug.

    The Bottom Line

Experimental cancer research studies are more reliable when compared to observational studies. This is easy to see why since the volunteers are placed in the intervention or control group by chance. Through this action, they’re able to reduce the likelihood that the assumptions or preferences of the researchers or volunteers would end up changing the study results.

Either way, cancer research studies have the potential to change the lives of patients for the better. This is regardless of whether researchers are taking part in experimental studies or observational studies. No wonder more and more organizations continue to invest in cancer research.
